Paul Cézanne- Born 1839 and died 1906, he was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th-century art to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne's often repetitive brushstrokes are highly characteristic and clearly recognizable. He used planes of color and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields.

Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), and Guernica (1937), a portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.
